VERSE 1:
Me and My best friend Jim started our own band
LAm FAWhen I was fifteen living in Deutschland.
DO MImDidn't matter that we could hardly play
Came up with a crazy name, called the band "Queen UK"
DO MImI played the guitar, he played drums
LAm FAOur parents told us one day we'd be bums
And everyday we'd go over to his parents house
LAm FAAnd in the basement we'd play as hard and loud
DO MImAs we could get it. It drove his mom mad
But it never seemed to bother his drunk dad.
DO MImWe wrote five or six, songs or so
LAm FAWe played them at the high school talent show
We blew the shit up. The girls went crazy.
LAm FAWe looked so cool. They called us 'baby.'
DO MImAnd after that man, we had it made.
The normal life was later-ade.
INTERLUDE:
C, Em, Am, F...
VERSE 2:
DO MImWell I moved to Austin, he moved to LA after living in Seattle.
I joined a funk band, he got all into heavy metal.
DO MImIt was a wild time. I did a lot of blotter.
LAm FAIt was like some bad episode of "Welcome Back Kotter".
I went out to LA to visit him.
LAm FABut he was all messed up playing in some shitty band.
DO MImSnorting heroin. He had like ten tatoos.
We smoked some serious kind, drank a ton of booze.
DO MImWe joked around alot. We'd always say
LAm FAWe've come so far since the good ol' days.
INTERLUDE:
C, Em, Am, F...
VERSE 3:
DO MImIt was a blur but, I don't really remember much.
LAm FAJust glad to get the hell out, I never liked LA too much.
Austin was more laid back, more like my kind of town.
LAm FAPeople kickin it, not so tightly wound.
DO MImMy bands kept breaking up, like they always do.
I kept getting by, and pulling through.
DO MImI got a phone call from Jim one night in ninety-eight
LAm FAHe didn't sound so good he said 'I need a break'.
He said can I come to stay for a week or so.
LAm FAI said 'That'd be cool. No problem bro.'
DO MImBut I never spoke to him again after that.
I got a call from this guy in Jim's band Aftermath.
DO MImHe said that Jim had died sometime last week or so.
LAm FAIn his apartment, some kind of overdose.
The police couldn't find his folks, and maybe did I know
LAm FAHow to get a hold of them and I said I did and so
DO MImThey called his parents up and it was shitty but,
I went to the funeral and I was all fucked up.
DO MImAnd I felt responsible in some weird ol' way.
LAm FABut there was nothing I could do, there was nothing I could say.
INTERLUDE:
C, Em, Am, F (x2)...
VERSE 4:
DO MImThat's the way it goes when fate is king.
LAm FAYou can't tell the world how to do its thing.
You can just hold on tight, let it take you for a ride.
LAm FAAnd maybe you might make it to the other side.
DO MImWell in the end I guess, it doesn't matter so.
I guess I'll tell you everything I know now.
