SOL
I was just out of the service thumbin' through the classifieds
DO
When an ad that said old chevy somehow caught my eye
SOL
The Lady didn't know the year or even if it ran
DO RE SOL
but I had that thousand dollars in my hand.
SOL
It was way back in the corner of this old ramshakled barn
DO
With thirty years of dust and dirt on that green army tarp
RE DO
and when I pulled the cover off, It took away my breath
RE
what she called a chevy was a '66 Corvette
DO RE
I felt a little guilty as I counted out the bills
SOL DO RE
but what a thrill I got when I sat behind the wheel.
SOL
I opened up the glove box and thats when I found the note
DO RE SOL
The date was 1966 this is what he wrote
CHORUS
SOL RE DO RE
He said my name is Private Andrew Malone
SOL RE DO RE
and if youre reading this then I didn't make it home
SOL RE DO RE
But for every dream they shattered, another one comes true
DO RE
this car was once a dream of mine back when it was new
SOL RE DO RE
and though you may take her and make her your own
SOL RE DO RE SOL
You'll always be rid-ing with Private Malone.
Well it didnt take me long at all I had her runnin' good
I loved to hear those horses thunder underneath her hood
I had her shining like a diamond and I'd put the ragtop down
All the pretty girls would stop and stare as I drove her though town
The buttons on the radio didnt seem to work quite right
but it picked up that oldies show especially late at night
I'd get the feelin' sometimes if I turned real quick I'd see
a soldier ridin' shotgun in the seat right next to me...
REPEAT CHORUS
DO RE
One night it was rainin' hard and I took the curve to fast
SOL DO RE
I still dont remember much about the fiery crash
SOL
Someone said they thought they saw a soldier pull me out
DO RE SOL
they didnt get his name, but I know without a doubt...
REPEAT CHORUS
